Minister Hanafin Event
14 March 2005

On March 14th, Ireland’s Minister for Education & Science, Mary Hanafin, T.D. was the guest of honor at a breakfast reception held at the Union League of Philadelphia. Attending were representatives of Philadelphia area universities and school boards, members of Donegal’s County Council, and IABCN members.

Following the breakfast, Minister Hanafin met with the local educators for a round table discussion. Both events were generously sponsored by The Keating Company.

Irish American Chamber members and friends started St. Patrick’s Day off right! Nearly 100 guests converged on the Union League Of Philadelphia to begin their St. Patrick’s Day celebrations. The breakfast proves to be a great networking opportunity year after year.

Irish Boxing/Networking Event
23 June 2005

IABCN proudly sponsored the sixth annual Irish vs. American boxing matches at Festival Pier at Penn’s Landing. Philadelphia’s own Harrowgate Boxing Club hosted the male amateur boxers associated with the Holy Family Boxing Club of Belfast, Northern Ireland. The evening featured nine matches, Harrowgate Boxing Club prevailed with five wins out of the nine matches fought. Afterwards, the teams socialized over a few pints at Finnegan’s Wake Pub in Philadelphia.

Lunch with Dr. Robert C. Gallo

IABCN’s fall season kicked off with a luncheon and address by Dr. Robert C. Gallo, M.D. Dr. Robert C. Gallo is Chairman of the Institute of Human Virology at the University of Maryland. Dr. Gallo and his team discovered the first and second known human retroviruses. Most notably, the team discovered HIV and provided results showing that HIV is the cause of AIDS. Dr. Gallo was recently awarded an honorary doctorate from University College Dublin, as part of their 150th Anniversary celebration.

Cocktail Reception with Mark FitzGerald

IABCN hosted Mark FitzGerald, CEO of Sherry FitzGerald, at a cocktail reception. Sherry FitzGerald is Ireland’s leading property and financial services company. They are the largest Estate Agency, with over 100 branded offices countrywide. Mr. FitzGerald will discuss both commercial and residential real estate opportunities in Ireland.
